Acreditas Global Elects Additional Board Members

(Skokie, Ill.) May 10, 2017 – Acreditas Global, the international subsidiary of AAAHC, the leader in ambulatory health care accreditation in the United States of America, has announced Mark S. De Francesco, MD, MBA, FACOG and Patrick A. Palmieri, DHSc, EdS, MBA, PGDip(Oxon), MSN, ACNP, RN, CPHRM, CPHQ, FACHE, FISQua, FAAN as newly elected board members. The new board members bring extensive international experience and expertise in patient-centric care to Acreditas Global.

Mark S. DeFrancesco, MD, MBA, FACOG is a board-certified Ob/GYN who served as President of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) from 2014-2017. Dr. DeFrancesco is also a past National Secretary of ACOG and has served on or chaired many ACOG Committees and Task Forces including the Global Operations Advisory Committee. He has been practicing since 1984 in Waterbury, Conn. and is one of the founders of Women’s Health Connecticut/Physicians for Women’s Health, one of the largest Ob/GYN practices in the United States.
In addition to his ACOG activities, Dr. DeFrancesco is a Board Member and a past President of AAAHC and is a past member of the Board of Trustees of the AAAHC Institute of Quality Improvement. Currently he serves as Treasurer on the board of the Accreditation Association for Hospitals and Health Systems (AAHHS). He served as Chair of the Ob/Gyn Department of St. Mary’s Hospital for many years. A graduate of Yale University, Dr. DeFrancesco received his medical education at the University of Connecticut. He earned an MBA from the University of New Haven. Dr. DeFrancesco has published more than 20 articles and has been a frequent speaker on various clinical, patient safety and “business of medicine” topics. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Connecticut Health Center. Prior to becoming a physician, Dr. DeFrancesco served as a State Representative in the Connecticut State Legislature.

Patrick A. Palmieri, DHSc, EdS, MBA, PGDip(Oxon), MSN, ACNP, RN, CPHRM, CPHQ, FACHE, FISQua, FAAN is a leading Peruvian health system expert with extensive work experience in public policy, health system leadership, and insurance risk management. He is the Margaret Jean Watson Distinguished Professor at the University Privada Norbert Wiener (Lima, Peru), professor for the doctoral program in nursing at Walden University (United States), and principal researcher for the Center for Health Sciences Research at the Universidad Señor de Sipán (Chiclayo, Peru). Notably, Dr. Palmieri organized a nursing-led project resulting in the first two international health services organization accreditations and re-accreditations in Peruvian history. Committed to developing young health services professionals and nursing leaders, Dr. Palmieri directed the first fully funded two-year fellowship programs in South America, including programs in evidence-based clinical practice (infection prevention and control and perioperative services) and health services administration (value-based healthcare). As a consumer advocate and nursing leader, Dr. Palmieri is engaged in advancing health policy by promoting a reform agenda including projects to advance quality improvement, risk management, patient safety, and evidence-based practice throughout the region. Dr. Palmieri disseminates his scholarly work and professional knowledge through scientific and professional publications, and presentations at international conferences. Dr. Palmieri’s research experience includes: Instrument development /psychometrics; qualitative methods, cohort, observational, and descriptive designs, and quality improvement studies. He resides in Tampa, Florida; Houston, Texas; Lima, Peru and La Paz, Bolivia.

Dr. Mark S. De Francesco and Dr. Patrick Palmieri join the current Acreditas Global Board of Directors composed of Beth Derby, RN, BS, MBA (Board Chair), Noreen DiPlacido, RN, LHRM, Dr. Arnaldo Valedon and Dr. Girish Joshi.

Beth Derby welcomed the new board members and indicated that with the addition of Drs. DeFrancesco and Palmieri, Acreditas Global is better positioned to increase its international accreditation activities with the mission of developing standards to advance and promote patient safety, quality, value and measurement of performance through a peer-based accreditation process
